Edwards Wildman Speakers:  Geoffrey Etherington, Stephen G. Huggard, James Maton

In January 2009, AON was given a substantial fine by the UK’s Financial Services Services Authority for failing to take reasonable care to establish and maintain effective controls for countering the risks of bribery and corruption. As this case has demonstrated, enforcement of anti-bribery and sanctions laws in the insurance industry is now clearly a priority in the UK, as it has been for some time in the US.

Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge LLP held a complimentary webinar on April 20, 2009 which addressed the following subjects in the context of the worldwide insurance and reinsurance markets:

  • the proposed UK bribery bill and increased UK enforcement
  • update on enforcement of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act
  • analysis of the AON case in the UK - overview and implications
  • the US and UK financial sanctions regime
  • issues for the insurance industry

Speakers:

Stephen Huggard – Partner, Boston
James Maton – Partner, London
