Inaugural Issue of Edwards Wildman’s Diversity Quarterly
April 2, 2010
Welcome to the Inaugural issue of Edwards Wildman’s Diversity Quarterly. For the past several years, EAPD has been on the cutting edge of issues relating to diversity. During the recent economic crisis, when other Firms took the "opportunity" to scale back their diversity efforts, Edwards Wildman saw these difficult times as an opportunity to enhance its efforts.
Despite the economic challenges and to demonstrate that diversity remained a core value of Edwards Wildman, the Firm-wide Diversity Committee forged ahead with important diversity initiatives.
In March 2009, Edwards Wildman held its first Affinity Group Conference. Diverse lawyers from all US offices participated, as did the Managing Partner and General Counsel of Edwards Wildman. Some of the lawyers who participated in that conference reflect upon their experience in this Quarterly. The Conference was a great experience for those in attendance and great for the Firm.
External support of diversity initiatives has continued to thrive as well. Edwards Wildman was a major sponsor of the most recent NAPABA Convention held in Boston in November 2009. Our lawyers in the Firm served as co-chairs of the Convention and held other key roles in ensuring the success of the Convention. This Quarterly also sets forth several examples of our external support.
While there are many reasons to be proud of the diversity efforts of Edwards Wildman, we will save some of them for subsequent Quarterlies and just mention one more important initiative now. The Women’s Business Collaborative has recently been launched. It provides a platform for our female attorneys to develop professionally and personally.
Finally, in addition to a Quarterly Newsletter, Edwards Wildman will soon launch a diversity website. Stay tuned.
