    Tim is a Partner in the Litigation Department. He founded his previous firm’s Public International Law Practice and has acted for a number of governments and parastatals, particularly in the developing world. This work has included representation of states before the International Court of Justice in the Hague in boundary disputes and in international arbitration disputes.

    He has extensive experience of asset tracing, both in the commercial/insolvency sector and, currently, on behalf of states. Listed as a leading individual in public international law in Chambers and The Legal 500 Directories for the past several years. Tim is also included in the latest edition of ‘Best Lawyers in the United Kingdom’ for Public International Law work.

    Tim is a recognised spokesperson on anti-corruption and asset tracing, and has recently been interviewed on BBC Two's "Newsnight", BBC Radio Four's "File on 4" programme and for The Guardian newspaper.

    • Tim has acted for the Government of Nigeria since the mid 1970's when he was involved in the state immunity cases arising out of the cement crisis. He led the team advising Nigeria in the land and maritime boundary dispute with Cameroon before the International Court of Justice. The team also assisted Nigeria in its negotiation of maritime boundary treaties with Equatorial Guinea, São Tomé e Príncipe and Benin and continues to advise on a number of national and international boundaries relating both to Nigeria and other parts of the world.

    • Tim and his colleagues represented Botswana in their river boundary dispute with Namibia before the ICJ.

    • Tim was involved in several high profile cases in the 1980's and 1990's including the Lloyd's/PCW litigation, the Barlow Clowes liquidation and BCCI.

    • Tim is currently acting for several governments and anti-corruption commissions recovering assets looted by former Heads of State and high-ranking government officials.

    • Tim has advised governments on anti money-laundering and proceeds of crime legislation and the setting up of anti-corruption agencies.

    Before Edwards Wildman

    Tim worked in a small City of London practice specializing in shipping, insurance, international sale of goods cases, and public and private international law, before joining Kendall Freeman (then DJ Freeman) in 1988.

    Besides Edwards Wildman

    Tim was a keen actor and director at University, and studied mime for a year in Paris under Marcel Marceau's teacher. At DJ Freeman he performed regularly in the City of London Law Society Revels, a biennial Review staged at leading London theatres for charity.

    He designed and made all the furniture for his first matrimonial home in London, and subsequently made many of his children's toys.

    A keen cricketer, he has always played for his firms, and the Law Society, and is a member of the MCC.

    Tim has for twenty years been a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and has a particular interest in old maps and accounts written of early expeditions-especially those engaged in demarcating colonial boundaries.
