WHY LOCKE LORD

Locke Lord has deep roots in North America that go back to the late 19th century. Today, the Firm ‎operates 20 global offices, and our lawyers have performed work in all 50 states, Canada and across the ‎Caribbean.

Our team has earned a solid reputation in complex litigation, regulatory and transactional work throughout ‎Canada and the Caribbean. Our clients range from Fortune 500 and middle market public and private ‎companies, to start-ups and emerging businesses. We have particular experience in cross-border ‎transactions as well as dispute resolution across the region.‎

We frequently represent Caribbean- and Canadian-based clients with respect to their international business ‎activities and legal concerns, either directly or as co-counsel alongside their local counsel in matters ‎involving:‎

  • Admiralty and Maritime
  • Aviation
  • Bankruptcy/Restructuring/Insolvency
  • Cybersecurity and Data Protection
  • General Secured and Unsecured Financings
  • Hospitality
  • Insurance and Reinsurance
  • Mining Ventures
  • OFAC and Cuban Asset Control Regulations
  • Real Estate Projects
  • Securitizations
  • International Tax
  • Utility Companies

We also often assist our U.S., UK, Latin America, Greater China and global clients in their inward ‎investments throughout the region, as well as advisory and other legal matters. While our lawyers do not ‎advise on Canadian law or that of individual Caribbean nations, their work aligns the Firm with the needs ‎of the regional business community and allows us to better service the needs of our global clients.‎

In Canada, we often work with the largest financial institutions in the country on cross-broader ‎transactions. Our litigation lawyers are involved in significant multi-jurisdictional litigation as well as ‎arbitration in Canada. In addition, our lawyers advise Canadian-based energy companies on investments in ‎infrastructure and acquisitions in the United States and Europe.‎

Throughout the Caribbean, we advise on cross-border transactions as well as the regulation of ‎import/export of goods in the region, including Cuba. We have lawyers particularly versed in the tax ‎implications for foreign companies investing in the Cayman Islands, and our insurance lawyers work with ‎their global clients on insurance matters in Bermuda.‎
